Mi Mejor Amigo is an Argentinean film written and directed by Martín Deus with the collaboration of the Venezuelan scriptwriter Keyber Rojas. It stars Angelo Mutti Spinetta and Lautaro Rodríguez. This film centers on Lorenzo, a quiet teenager living in Patagonia. When Caito, the son of his father’s friend, comes to stay with his family, the two boys form an unlikely bond. Hard Paint (Portuguese: Tinta bruta) is a 2018 Brazilian drama directed by Marcio Reolon and Filipe Matzembacher. Hard Paint follows Pedro (Shico Menegat) — an isolated young man who earns a living as a cam boy, performing online for a camera. His trademark is to dance while smearing neon body paint over his body, but the film’s central conflict is set in motion when he learns that another chatroom performer is imitating him. The Heiresses (Spanish: Las herederas; German: Die Erbinnen) is a 2018 Paraguayan drama directed by Marcelo Martinessi. It was selected to compete for the Golden Bear in the main competition section at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival, where Ana Brun won the Silver Bear for Best Actress. The Heiresses centers on Chela and Chiquita. Both descended from wealthy families in Asunción, Paraguay, and have been together for over 30 years. Recently their financial situation has worsened and they begin selling off their inherited possessions. Retablo is a drama directed by Alvaro Delgado-Aparicio from Peru. The film centers on Segundo (Junior Bejar Roca), a young boy in rural Peru whose father Noé (Amiel Cayo) is training him in the family tradition of designing and building religious retablos, but whose world is shattered when they take a trip during which Segundo discovers that his father Noé is in the closet about being gay. The cast also includes Magaly Solier as Anatolia, Segundo’s mother and Noé’s wife.
Delgado-Aparicio’s full-length directorial debut, the film is written and acted in Ayacucho Quechua. The film premiered at the 2017 Festival de Cine de Lima, where it won the award for Best Peruvian Film. Tickets and times: http://bit.ly/2s6mNhH.
